This time I'm introducing Deoksu Sikdang.

I went on a trip to Taean and wanted to try something special that's only available in that area... 🤔 While looking into it, I found out a dish called gegukji is famous there, and after checking a few places and seeing decent reviews, I visited out of curiosity!

I went on a weekend and there didn't seem to be a wait. I think we arrived shortly after opening, so we got in relatively quickly. It's usually known for long waits, so a tip would be to go early. They don't take reservations. While waiting, the side dishes came out first — there were lots of varieties and the portions were quite generous, which I liked. Especially the ganjang gejang that came as a side was really delicious…🥹

Since it's a soup dish, it took a bit of time for the food to arrive, but when it did the portions were larger than I expected. The crab wasn't cut into small pieces but came in roughly half-crab portions, so the bowl looked full, and I think we ate it smiling 🤣

The price was 17,000 won per person, so it wasn't cheap. But they have a strict one-menu-per-person policy, so there was no avoiding it…

The taste was overall fairly ordinary. It's a shrimp soup, but a slightly more upscale version with crab added…? It felt like eating a somewhat luxurious shrimp soup, haha.

One thing to keep in mind: you end up picking at the food with your hands, so it can get a bit messy. Broth drips, meat falls off, and you eat things like napa cabbage together, so a bib is essential. If you dislike your hands smelling afterward, this might not be for you.

I like crustaceans, so I enjoyed it, but a friend who went with me didn't like it… The seating layout is a bit cramped, and there were many older customers, so it felt a little uncomfortable.

It's worth visiting once, but it didn't leave me wanting to go back — I don't recommend it. If you like crab, I recommend it; otherwise, maybe not? 😢
